Hansen Dam 4th of July Spectacular

An event full of Life, Wonder and Unity of the American Spirit!

The 50th Anniversary commemorating Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper

The 2009 15th Annual Hansen Dam Fourth of July Celebration has all of the wonderful “day in the park” event highlights with a very special and relevant twist. It will also be the commemoration of the 50th anniversary since the loss of hometown heroe Ritchie Valens, and rock and roll legends Buddy Holly, and the Big Bopper.

It will be an unforgettable patriotic and cultural event celebrating our nations independence and honoring these musical icons.

Along with the celebratory festivities and fireworks, the day will be highlighted with performance by Tierra, and the best Tribute bands in the business, which will honor these early rock heroes. Some of the performers and attendees are actual family members, such as Maria Elena Holly, wife of Buddy Holly and Mario and Ernie Valens. Also performing will be John Mueller, the only officially sanctioned Buddy Holly tribute performer, with Tommy Allsup, an original Buddy Holly band member, plus other surprise guests.

The community, local politicians, the Grammy Museum at L.A. Live, the press, local businesses and corporations, will be there to honor, document and celebrate this very special event.

This is an excellent opportunity for your company to ingratiate itself to the community by supporting and recognizing these important icons in the midst of a this spectacular Fourth of July Celebration.

A Message from the 4th of July Committee

“UNITY IN THE COMMUNITY”

In the late nineties, then and now, Councilperson of the Seventh Counsel District of Los Angeles, Richard Alarcón, personally decided to “reactivate” the Fourth of July Health, Safety, Entertainment and Fireworks Celebration at Hansen Dam. The communities surrounding the Hansen Dam area, were thrilled at the opportunity of working together in support of this important holiday, which represents the sacrifices made by people of all nations who fought to make America free from British domination.

While there were already events being held at Hansen Dam that highlighted our ethnic, religious and cultural diversity, few if any, emphasized our commonality.

We have always been inclusive and sensitive to the cultural needs of all our residents, which include Caucasian, Asian, African American, Native American, Middle Eastern, East Indian, Pacific Islander, and Hispanic. Hispanics represent the largest segment of our population.

We are many people with one nation. We, the Committee feel that there is not better day, than the Fourth of July to celebrate our multiculturalism. Together we can make a difference and set an example of the positive things that we all bring to “our cultural community table”. We celebrate the spirit of our diversity, by teaching, sharing and exposing each other to cultural differences and subtleties and using arts and entertainment to gain a better understanding of our cultural similarities.
